FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cleveland Clinic Press
Welcomes Proposals and Manuscripts

(Cleveland, OH, April, 2005) Lawrence D. Chilnick, editorial director of the newly launched Cleveland Clinic Press, reports that “the CCP is on a search for strong narrative stories in the health and science fields and biographies of medical giants or heroes who have helped shape our nation’s health care into one of the best in the world.

“We already have a fascinating bio of Jonas Salk scheduled for this fall, which takes an intimate look at the years after the polio vaccine during the time when Salk was a controversial figure in many scientific areas. For example, few people know that Salk was involved in early work on HIV virus testing.

“Another example of our unique list includes an upcoming book, The Hero With A Thousand Faces: Real Stories of People With Facial Deformities and Their Quest For Acceptance. We also have a major book coming, Curious Cases From The Files of The Cleveland Clinic, which fans of Oliver Sacks and Berton Roueché will embrace. Both of these come from inside our own institution.

“In addition to narrative non-fiction, we are looking for books that approach common subjects in new ways. For example, we will publish this spring Lee Edwards Benning’s definitive guide to child care in this age of working parents: The Granny-Nanny: A Guide For Parents and Grandparents Who Share Childcare.

“I encourage agents and editors with projects in the health, medicine, cookbook and exercise fields to contact me directly. I am open to talking with agents, editors, and authors and exploring as many projects as we can find.”
