By Curtis
Rimmerman, M.D.
Real substantive information from the source trusted by people
all over the world.
(January 2006)
HEART ATTACK: A Cleveland Clinic Guide by Curtis Rimmerman,
M.D. is one of a series of new books written by physicians
from the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. HEART ATTACK: A
Cleveland Clinic Guide provides what anyone at risk of a
heart attack needs most: real substantive information from the
source trusted by people all over the world. Told through case
histories, and fully illustrated, this Guide was written by
specialists who understand what patients are going through and
know that with more information, patients will understand they
are not alone.
There is no other
medical center more qualified to write a book on this subject.
The Cleveland Clinic Heart Center has been selected as
the best Heart Center in America, according to U.S. News &
World Report’s annual survey for the past 11 years. Their
doctors are leaders in cardiology, cardiac surgery,
cardiothoracic anesthesia, and research into the heart and its
diseases. No heart program has more experience, more knowledge
and better access to technology. As medical pioneers, The
Clinic developed cardiac angiography and the coronary artery
bypass.
HEART ATTACK: A
Cleveland Clinic Guide addresses these myths:
-
If I have no
symptoms, I’m not at risk for MI
-
If my parents
had heart disease, I’m doomed to get it also
-
Heart disease
begins in adulthood
-
Only those who
are overweight or obese are at risk; dietary habits are only
an issue if you are overweight
-
Cholesterol
levels in the normal range = no risk for heart attack
-
Women don’t have
heart attacks
-
Smoking only
hurts the lungs
-
No reason to
quit smoking because you’re already doomed
-
If you’re taking
cholesterol lowering agents (statins), you can eat anything
you want
-
Only Olympian
caliber training can help reduce risk, lower blood pressure,
etc.; walking is for old people
-
The only safe
diet is strict vegetarianism
-
Stress is good —
sometimes
HEART ATTACK: A
Cleveland Clinic Guide covers these subjects and more:

right doctor
